Basilica of S. Giacomo
(Bellagio)
One of the most important examples of the Lombard Romanesque style. Built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries by the Maestri Comacini, it houses several works of art form different ages, from the archaic Crucifix, to the triptych by Foppa (1432), to the Deposition from the school of Perugino, to the sumptuous sixteenth century altar and the early twentieth century mosaics. A Baroque construction dating from the seventeenth century with a single nave and a seventeenth century wooden altar. It contains a fine fresco of the Lombard school, the Madonna delle Grazie, the statue of the Immacolata from the school of Bernini sculpted in Carrara marble, a finely carved eighteenth century walnut choirstall, and a painting by Gaudenzio Ferrari (1532).
